DEMENTIA & ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
Memory impairment and confusion become more common as we age. Dementia is a group of conditions that gradually destroy brain cells and leads to a progressive decline in mental functioning.
The most common type of dementia among people age 65 and older is Alzheimer’s disease. Currently, Alzheimer’s disease affects an estimated 4.5 million Americans and is expected to increase to 16 million by the year 2050. Symptoms can first appear after age 65, but rare, inherited forms of Alzheimer’s disease can strike individuals as early as their 30s and 40s.
One in 10 individuals over 65 and nearly half of those over 85 are affected. S+AGE staff specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with dementia.
